Dinner discussion on fleas, ticks and Lyme disease slated for March 1 in Potsdam

POTSDAM -- St. Lawrence Health System, in conjunction with the Cornell Cooperative Extension of St. Lawrence County and AARP Chapter 2831, will present a dinner discussion on fleas, ticks, and Lyme disease on March 1, at the Best Western University Inn.

Guest speaker will be Paul Hetzler, horticulture and natural resources educator at Cornell Cooperative Extension of St. Lawrence County.

“2016 was a watershed year in terms of our understanding of Lyme disease,” says Mr. Hetzler. “Fifty percent of deer ticks in northern NY counties are now known to be infected with the Lyme organism. We now have variants of the original Lyme organism which do not reliably show up on tests. It is important for our community to learn the facts.”

This event is free and open to all, however seating is limited, and RSVPs are required by Feb. 26. Dinner is at 5:30, and the lecture begins at 6 p.m.

Contact Deborah C. Lauther at 315-261-5413, or dchaselauther@cphospital.org to reserve a seat.
