CANTON -- Peter Klein, director of the University of British Columbia School of Journalism, will speak following a screening of his documentary Ghana: Digital Dumping Ground on Monday, April 23, at 7 p.m. in Eben Holden Conference Center at St. Lawrence University. The event, part of the Contemporary Issues Forum, is open to the public, free of charge.

Klein and a group of graduate journalism students traveled to Ghana, tracking a shadowy industry causing problems there and around the world. The resulting documentary exposes “the dirty secret of the digital age -- the dumping and dangerous recycling of hundreds of millions of pounds of electronic waste across the developing world.”

The report also uncovers another byproduct of our disposable culture, data fraud, as thousands of old hard drives find their way into criminal hands.
