How to create a neighborhood is the topic of the next Peak Moment program to be presented at 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, March 28 and 29 on WCKN, cable channel 30.
Host Janaia Donaldson discusses with Kathleen Nolan how Nolan helped shaped the beginnings of Bellingham Cohousing in Washington state, based on a neighborhood design of private homes and shared buildings, managed by residents in participatory decision making.
Their 5.74 acre plot originally had one farmhouse, which they modified to become the shared community building with dining, kitchen, laundry, craft, office, guest, and other rooms. The individual townhouses make a small footprint, leaving open space for gardens and a natural wetland. Nolan stresses the importance of agreeing on shared values, and how the social connections enhance and challenge personal growth.
The Peak Moment programs air every week at 7 pm on Monday and Tuesday on WCKN. Peak Moment explores locally reliant living for challenging times.
The programs are underwritten locally by The Center for Excellence in Communication at Clarkson University and the Seymour Family of Potsdam.
