MASSENA -- The Friends of the RMSP Nature Center are hosting a week of day camps from Aug. 17 to 21 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The event is for young people ages 6 to 12.
Sessions will be at the Barnhart Beach.
Attendees will need to bring a lunch and something to drink.
Schedule:
Aug. 17 - Ferns of New York. Kids will see how many ferns they can find and identify. The group will also make a sun-print hankerchief.
Aug. 18 - Invasive species and what can be done. Attendees will learn about what invasive species are in the area and their spread can be prevented. The group will make a plant press and plant ID book.
Aug. 19 - Fish of New York. Kids will learn to identify various local species. Participants will make fishing gear, as well as sein for fish.
Aug. 20 - Fungus among us. Focuses on identifying some of the many forms of mushrooms we have in the woods. The class will make mushroom prints.
Aug. 21 - Campfire cooking. Kids will learn a few fun recipes from “Pigs in a Blanket” to “Banana Boats.”
There is no charge for this program. Registration is required.
