Cruising 101, Library Babies, origami, Photoshop among programs at Potsdam Public Library this summer

POTSDAM – The Potsdam Public Library, 2 Park St., has several classes and programs scheduled in the coming weeks.

Cruising 101 will be held at the Cleveland Computer Center in the library July 8, from 10:30 a.m.-noon. Attendees will learn about the cruising experience, the differences between cruise lines, and how to get the best deals from cruising expert Ed Sachs. Registration is required by emailing bgordon@potsdamlibrary.org or calling 315-265-7230.

Library Babies will be held July 8 and 15, from 11 a.m.-noon. The session is an opportunity for parents to spend time with their 6-24 month old children learning finger plays, tickles, rhymes, songs and simple stories. Email info@potsdamlibrary.org or call 315-265-7230 for more information.

Origami for Beginners will be held from 2-3 p.m. July 8. Attendees will learn the basic techniques of the ancient art of folding paper. Paper and instruction will be provided. The workshop is open to all ages. Email info@potsdamlibrary.org or call 315-265-7230 for more information.

Photoshop 101: Intro to Image Editing, scheduled for July 10, from 12:30-2 p.m., will be held at the computer center. Students will learn about layers, explore the tool palette, find free stock photos and fonts, choose the right file type, adjust color and light, add text, and fix blemishes. Summer Reading Camp: Build a Better World (Session I) will be held July 10, 11, 12, 13 and 13 from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The reading camp for children ages 5-10, is based upon the NYS Collaborative Summer Library Program. Four sessions are available: July 10-14, July 24-28, Aug. 7-11 or Aug. 21-25. Improve English Skills Using the Internet will be held at the computer center July 11, from 10:30 a.m.-noon. Attendees will be able to join a group of people learning to speak English as an additional language in an informal setting. Learners can improve their listening skills by using YouTube and podcasts to hear different accents and speeds. Conversation will help us have fun while improving our fluency and confidence. Basics of Seed Saving is scheduled for July 26, at 6:30 p.m. Participants will learn the terminology, tricks of the trade, storage, and shelf life of seeds. Email info@potsdamlibrary.org or call 315-265-7230 for more information.

Techniques of Seed Saving will be held Aug. 23 at 6:30 p.m. Students will learn to save tomato seeds, what makes a seed viable or ripe for saving, and how to store seeds.
