POTSDAM -- SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music invites the public to attend the Crane Wind Ensemble's second concert of the semester Wednesday, Oct. 18, at 7:30 p.m., in the Helen M. Hosmer Concert Hall.
The concert will open with "Variants on a Medieval Tune" by the Pulitzer Prize-winning composer, Norman Dello Joio.
The work is a theme and variations on the Middle Ages hymn, "In Dulci Jubilo," better recognized today as the Christmas carol, "Good Christian Men, Rejoice."
This will be followed by the world premiere of Stacy Garrop's concerto for alto saxophone and wind ensemble, titled "Quicksilver," featuring Assistant Professor Dr. Casey Grev on saxophone.
The work is inspired by the Roman god Mercury, as well as the mercurial nature of the saxophone -- unpredictable, very lively and volatile.
The Crane Wind Ensemble concert will conclude with Steven Bryant's monumental work for wind ensemble and electronics, "Ecstatic Waters."
This concert is free, and the public is invited to attend.
