POTSDAM -- The Crane Symphony at SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music is preparing for its second program of the spring semester -- a concert that the student group will take on the road with a state tour next month.
Conducted by Dr. Ching-Chun Lai, student musicians of the Crane Symphony will be joined by a line-up of faculty guest artists for the performances. The 2018 Crane Symphony Tour will take the group to the Syracuse and Albany areas, where they will present concerts and lead masterclasses with area high school students.
2018 Crane Symphony Tour schedule:
Tuesday, April 10 -- Concert at SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music at 7:30 p.m., in the Helen M. Hosmer Concert Hall. This performance will also stream live online, at www.potsdam.edu/academics/crane/streaming.
Wednesday, April 11 -- Concert at Fayetteville-Manlius High School in Manlius at 7 p.m. Post-concert reception for alumni and supporters to follow.
Thursday, April 12 -- Concert at Shenendehowa High School in Clifton Park at 7 p.m. Post-concert reception for alumni and supporters to follow.
All performances are free, and the public is invited to attend.
The concerts will open with the overture to Giuseppe Verdi's opera "Nabucco." Four professors will then join the for "Sinfonia Concertante for Four Winds in E-Flat Major," by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
The faculty artists include Dr. Anna Hendrickson (oboe), Dr. Julianne Kirk-Doyle (clarinet), Dr. Carol Lowe (bassoon) and Dr. Lauren Becker (horn). The performances will close with Hector Berlioz's symphony, "Harold in Italy, Op. 16," featuring Dr. Shelly Tramposh (viola).
