Crane School presents guest clarinetist in free recital Monday night at SUNY Potsdam
POTSDAM -- SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music will present a free guest artist recital featuring clarinetist Lauren Jacobson Monday, Oct. 22 at 7:30 p.m. in the Helen M. Hosmer Concert Hall.
The recital will include two works for clarinet and piano, Robert Schumann's Fantasiestücke, Op. 73, and Pierre Gabaye's Sonatine. Jacobson will also perform the "Hillandale Waltzes" by Victor Babin, and "Lied per clarinetto solo," by Luciano Berio.Lauren Jacobson has enjoyed a varied career as an artist and teacher. From 2006 to 2010, she was a member of The President's Own Marine Band and Orchestra in Washington, D.C. Her performances with the organization included three solo appearances, performances at the White House, the Kennedy Center and Strathmore Music Center, and two national concert tours. Lauren has performed for several high-profile events, including the Presidential Inauguration in 2008 and the United Nations conference in New York City in 2009.
In addition to her professional experience with the Marine Band, Lauren has performed with the National Opera Orchestra at the Kennedy Center, the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra, the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, the Rochester Philharmonic and the Colorado Symphony Orchestra. As a chamber musician, Lauren has performed frequently with the Verge Ensemble, the Ensemble-in-Residence at the Corcoran Gallery of Art, and the Fuse Ensemble in the Kennedy Center's annual Contemporary Music Week.
Teaching engagements have included appearing as guest artist/teacher at the Colorado College Music Festival and masterclasses at institutions including the Eastman School of Music, Northwestern University, Ithaca College, Bucknell University, the University of Northern Colorado and Colorado State University.
Jacobson holds a bachelor's degree in music education from the University of Northern Colorado and a master's degree and performer's certificate from the Eastman School of Music. She has participated in the Aspen and the Colorado College music festivals. Her teachers have included Jon Manasse, Bill Jackson, Kenneth Grant, David Jones and Richie Hawley. In addition to pursuing a doctorate at the Eastman School of Music, Jacobson is currently an assistant professor of clarinet at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Col.
