POTSDAM-- SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music will present a free concert featuring guest artist Kathleen Roland, soprano, Sept. 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Sara M. Snell Music Theater.
She will be accompanied by Crane faculty member Kirk Severtson on piano. The performance will feature art songs by Swedish composers.
Dr. Roland is a senior Fulbright scholar whose anthology of Swedish song, "Romanser: 24 Swedish Songs with Guide to Swedish Lyric Diction," will soon be published. She began the anthology while a 2003 American Scandinavian Foundation grantee, and later continued it while doing her 2007 Fulbright residency at the Royal Conservatory in Stockholm.
"The beauty of this Romantic music and poetry from Sweden surely rivals that of more-frequently heard songs from Germany, and deserves to be heard and performed more often. Audience members will be fortunate to hear an expert in the Swedish repertoire such as Dr. Roland when they attend this concert," said Dr. Severtson, who is the chair of the Department of Music Performance at Crane.
