POTSDAM -- The Crane School of Music Faculty Recital Series will continue Oct. 17 with "The World of Charles Ives," a lecture-recital featuring pianist Gary Busch, soprano Deborah Massell and mezzo-soprano Lorraine Yaros Sullivan, at 7:30 p.m. in the Sara M. Snell Music Theater.

The performance will feature songs by the great American composer Charles Ives, and other works which influenced their composition, guided by an exploration of the ideas behind Ives' original style.

Gary Busch is active as a performer, public lecturer, clinician and writer. As a professor of piano and music history at Crane, his areas of teaching and research specialty include the history of American music, German Lieder and music of the 19th century.

Lyric soprano Deborah Massell has performed throughout Europe and North America, appearing in leading operatic roles in acclaimed venues such as the Hamburg State Opera, the United Nations, Basel Opera, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and New York City's Town Hall.

She has also performed in festivals, including the Vienna, Munich Biennale, St. Bart's, Salzburg Mozarteum and Caramoor festivals. Lorraine Yaros Sullivan, mezzo-soprano, is an active performer and teacher.

She specializes in art song and chamber music from the turn of the 20th century, and also enjoys working with composers on new works whenever possible. She was a featured performer at the Kennedy Center's Terrace Theater and gave a series of recitals throughout Taiwan featuring American art song and musical theatre.

The concert will be broadcast live on the SUNY Potsdam website at the performance time.
