POTSDAM -- Faculty members of SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music will present "Vocal Music, 1985-2011," a concert showcasing works by composer David Heinick, on Thursday, Feb. 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the Snell Music Theater.
Faculty members performing include: Jill Pearon, soprano; David Pittman- Jennings, baritone; Lorraine Yaros Sullivan, mezzo-soprano; Lonel Woods, tenor; Shelly Tramposh, viola, and Raphael Sanders, clarinet.
The program features settings of texts by William Shakespeare, William Carlos Williams, Langston Hughes and other famous literary figures. Also featured in the program is the world premiere of the 2010 piece "Dream Variations," which sets four poems by poets of the Harlem Renaissance, and the world premiere of the 2010 piece "Resets."
The concert will conclude with the world premiere of the 2011 piece "Three Folk Songs" by composer and pianist David Heinick, a professor of composition and theory at The Crane School of Music, where he has taught since 1989.
This concert is free, and the public is invited to attend.
