POTSDAM -- SUNY Potsdam will present a free concert by the Crane Concert Band Wednesday, April 17 at 7:30 p.m. in Hosmer Hall.
The performance will include works by Fred Allen, Martin Ellerby, Morton Gould, Karel Husa and Karl King.
The band will be joined by Crane faculty member Lonel Woods, tenor, who will perform selected spirituals.
In addition, the band will perform "Jericho" in honor of the 100th anniversary of the birth of its composer, Morton Gould. "Jericho" is based on the African-American spiritual, "Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho."
Lonel Woods is an active performer of opera, oratorio and musical theatre. He has performed with the Michigan Opera Theater, the Washington National Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Toledo Opera, Chicago Opera Theatre, Chamber Opera Chicago and Houston Grand Opera.
He graduated from DePaul University with a degree in music education, received a master of music degree from the Catholic University of America with an emphasis in vocal pedagogy and received a doctorate of musical arts from the University of Michigan.
