POTSDAM -- The Community Performance Series will present a performance of "The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales" Jan. 19 at 3 p.m. in Snell Theater, SUNY Potsdam.
Based on the award winning children's book of the same title, the Griffin Theatre Company production will transform the magical world of fairy tales, as told by Jon Scieszka and Lane Smith, and bring the stories to life on stage.
The story loosely follows the story of Jack and the Beanstalk, among other famous fairy tales. After being captured by the Giant, Jack tries to talk his way out of becoming a meal, by telling fairy tales with his own twist. Featuring parodies of beloved stories such as "Little Red Riding Hood," "The Ugly Duckling," and "The Tortoise and the Hare," Jack distracts the Giant through creative storytelling techniques. The show is ideal for schoolchildren in pre-kindergarten through third grade.
Audience members may again donate a new or gently used copy of their favorite book to be given to area schools later in the year. Donations will be accepted at the performance, as well as during CPS Box Office hours. All book donations will enter patrons in a drawing to win two season tickets to the 2013-14 Meet the Arts Series.
Tickets are $5 for youth and $10 for adults. Tickets can be purchased online at www.cpspotsdam.org, by phone at 267-2277, or by visiting the box office, located in the lobby of Snell Theater. Tickets may also be purchased at Northern Music & Video.
