POTSDAM -- Canton-Potsdam Hospital’s Fibromyalgia/Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome Support Group will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 4 from 6:30-7:30 p.m., at 59 Main Street, Clarkson Hall, Potsdam.
This month’s topic is “Strategies for calming the oversensitive nervous system.”
According to group facilitator Dr. Leslie Russek, “Most types of chronic pain are associated with a sensitive nervous system that amplifies pain. There are a variety of ways to calm the nervous system and thereby ‘turn the volume down’ on pain.”
The session will include short practice sessions of mindfulness meditation, deep breathing, Tai Chi, and visualization. Participants are encouraged to share strategies that work for them. All people with chronic pain, friends and family are welcome.
Dr. Russek specializes in chronic pain management at Canton-Potsdam Hospital and is an Associate Professor in Clarkson University’s Physical Therapy Department.
