CANTON -- The St. Lawrence County Board of Legislators will hold a Monday, Jan. 26 public hearing on the county’s application to fund its Direct Homeownership Assistance Program (DHAP).
The hearing will be held at 5:15 p.m. in Board of Legislators Chamber in the county courthouse, 48 Court St.
The County’s DHAP helps low- to moderate-income households who are having difficulty saving enough funds to buy their first home. If funded, the county expects that the program will assist approximately 25 low- to moderate-income households with down payment and closing cost assistance, and cover minor repairs to the purchased home. To receive financial assistance, participating households are required to attend classes to learn about household budgeting, the mortgage application proces,; the day-to-day challenges of homeownership and home care and maintenance.
People with special needs who could benefit from the project are particularly encouraged to attend.
