CANTON -- The Down Syndrome Association of St. Lawrence County will host its one-mile Buddy Walk at 2 p.m. Oct. 19 at SUNY Canton's Convocation, Athletic and Recreation Center, also known as Roos House.
Funds raised at the walk support both local and national initiatives that benefit those with Down syndrome.
SUNY Canton assistant professor of nursing and county Down Syndrome Association president Christine Thompson said walk participation has been growing steadily since it began in 2008. This is the first time the organization has held the event at SUNY Canton.
"As a parent of a child with Down syndrome, an alumna of SUNY Canton's nursing program and a faculty member, I am proud to be partnering with the college for this event," said Thompson.
SUNY Canton nursing and physical therapy students will volunteer at the event, and there will be music, games, raffles and activities for kids.
Registration begins at 1 p.m.
