POTSDAM – If you like treats—and maybe a few fun tricks—the Potsdam Chamber of Commerce Fright Night Thursday, Oct. 27 will offer something for all souls, young and old.

Chamber Executive Director Marylee Ballou says along with annual favorites such as the Haunted Hallway at Great Northern Printing and a treasure hunt at Evan’s and White Ace Hardware, kids can use clay to make oven-fired maple leaf spoon rests at the St. Lawrence County Arts Council’s Market Street location, while teens and adults can learn the art of macabre makeup at the council’s downtown Snell Hall location.

“There are a lot of interactive activities going on and treats galore,” Ballou said, noting more than 30 businesses and organizations are participating this year.

Block 1-35 of Market Street will be closed to traffic between 6 and 8 p.m. for children’s safety—and to provide businesses with outdoor space to set up their Halloween activities.

Back again is the Halloween costume contest sponsored by St. Lawrence Chocolates and held this year inside the Potsdam Museum. No registration is needed this year.

A panel of judges awards prizes in three divisions: toddler to first grade (6:05 p.m.), second to fifth grade (6:45 p.m.), and sixth to eighth grade 7:15 p.m. Chocolate gift baskets will be given for best overall costume and runner up in each division, and treat bags are handed out to all participants.

The brand new Good Times Party Store will entertain with a balloon guy making your favorite creatures and festive music by DJ Double Dutch.
