CANTON -- The Cornell Cooperative Extension of St. Lawrence County will present a day-long course on the spotted lanternfly, Asian jumping worm and other new invasive species on Saturday, Jan. 23.

Lanternflies, first found in Pennsylvania in late 2014, have already moved rapidly from the initial site, and pose a threat to many tree species as well as to flowers, fruits and vegetables.

The Asian jumping worm was found in Northern New York just a few years ago, and is being spread through potted plants and trees, and other landscape products.

The new revisions to New York state’s list of prohibited and regulated invasive plants will also be covered, along with other invasive insect pests.

The course is open to the public, but those in the landscape, nursery, florist, greenhouse, and grounds management businesses are welcome to attend.

NYSDEC Pesticide Credits have been approved in categories 1a, 2, 3a, 6a, 9, 10 and 25.

The cost is $10, lunch included.
