Conference 'Social Justice With Politically Diverse Communities' set for Thursday at Potsdam church

POTSDAM -- A conference called “Social Justice With Politically Diverse Communities” will be held Thursday, March 1, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 42 Elm St., with the Rev. Deborah Packard, pastor.

Topics to be covered include social justice with politically diverse communities and congregations, tools and best practices for advocacy, how state and federal budgets will affect members of congregations and communities, theological reflections, challenges addressing homelessness and housing needs in the community, and fostering dialogue between faith communities, congregations, government officials, unions and secular advocacy groups.

Speakers will include the Rev. Peter Cook, executive director, New York State Council of Churches; Ron Deutsch, executive director, Fiscal Policy Institute; Marc Greenberg, executive director, Interfaith Assembly on Homelessness and Housing; and Darren Scott, director of development, Eastern New York, New York State Homes and Community Renewal Clergy, Local Government Officials and Housing Advocates.

There is a suggested donation of $15 to attend. The cost covers meals and conference materials.
