POTSDAM – Artist, master tiler and businessman Otto Czerepak is seeking alternative treatment in Mexico for cancer, and an auction Saturday at his store aims to raise $7,500 to help.
Paintings, sculptures, drawings, jewelry, and more will be for sale in the live auction, which starts at 4 p.m. at the Tile Company and Creative Spirit Art Gallery, in the Katya Greer Memorial Art Gallery, at 6 Raymond St.
Friday evening at the store, local bands will play beginning at 6 p.m.
Having already taken on one bout with cancer in the 1990s, his plan now, at 70 years old, is to try to beat the odds and try a method in Tijuana developed in the 1920s called Hoxsey therapy which, according to Web sources, involves herbal treatments and other supplements and dietary strictures. It has its proponents, but U.S. medical authorities are not among them.
A committed artist, Czerepak has produced paintings, sculptures and works in other media in the decades since he came to the U.S. from Austria as boy.
Among his most recent projects has been mosaics on the front of The Tile Co. building, which he said was a gift to the community.
