'Composting Made Simple for Yard & Food Waste' set for Saturday in Potsdam

POTSDAM -- The Local Living Venture has several workshops scheduled for Saturday, May 12.

The group and Janet Lomastro will host their ninth annual workshop, "Composting Made Simple for Yard & Food Waste" at a private home in Potsdam Saturday, May 12 from 3-5 p.m. Lomastro will teach a simple, effective composting system.

Local mushroom grower Bob Wagner of Turtle Hill PLC will teach students how to prepare logs with shiitake mushroom spawn from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at a residence near Canton.

“Fantasy Habitat Creation: A (Child-Friendly!) Make-n-Take Workshop” will be held from 1-3 p.m. at a residence in West Stockholm. The workshop is for adults or adults with children. Attendees will learn to build fantasy dioramas from natural materials and other items.

Finally, the third session of the LLV workshop series “Basic Construction Skills: Tiny House Edition” will be held from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. near Watertown in partnership with Woodhenge Self-Reliance Campus.

There is a suggested donation of $22, $40 per couple or $12 student for the composting workshop.

The shiitake mushroom growing workshop will cost $40, which will include one plugged shiitake log.

Cost of attending “Fantasy Habitat Creation” is $30 for adults, $35 for parent and child, or $15 for college students.

The building session will cost $60, $110 for a family of two, or $20 for students.

Proceeds from the workshops will help benefit the non-profit Local Living Venture.
