POTSDAM -- The Community Performance Series will open the 2014 “Meet the Arts Series” season with Swazzle's "Dream Carver" in Snell Music Theater, SUNY Potsdam.
School performances will be offered Friday, Jan. 17 at 9 a.m. and noon, with a family performance Saturday, Jan. 18 at 3 p.m.
Based on the children's book by Diana Cohn of the same title, "Dream Carver" is a bi-lingual children's show featuring original music and colorful puppetry.
"Dream Carver" tells the story of Mateo, a boy growing up in Oaxaca, Mexico, whose father has taught him to carve small wooden toys in the traditional way.
One day, as Mateo is sitting under a large tree, he dreams of fantastic, brightly colored animals. When he wakes up, he is impelled to bring them to life.
The show will also feature a short question and answer session with the cast following the performances to showcase the puppetry process.
The Swazzle team members have worked with leading puppet and entertainment companies including the Jim Henson Company, Baby Einstein, LeapFrog and the Center for Puppetry Arts.
Swazzle's television work also includes "The Pee Wee Herman Show," "The Simpsons," and featured puppetry in the newest Old Spice national commercial campaign.
Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults.
Tickets may be purchased at the CPS Box Office, Snell Theater, Northern Music & Video, 267-2277 or www.cpspotsdam.org.
