POTSDAM – The Community Performance Series (CPS) will present the highly-acclaimed percussion group NEXUS as the 33rd Annual McElheran Visting Artist.

The concert will take place Friday, April 21, at 7:30 p.m. in SUNY Potsdam's Helen M. Hosmer Concert Hall at the Crane School of Music. A special student discount is available for this event.

Formed in 1971, Nexus is a Toronto-based percussion ensemble that has performed with some of the top orchestras in the world and is considered one of the premier percussion ensembles today.

The group is made up of four master percussionists, internationally revered for virtuosity and innovation, who create extraordinary music from the broadest array of percussion instruments imaginable.

Their original arrangements range from novelty ragtime and African rhythms to award-winning improvised film music and ground-breaking compositions.

They deliver a stunningly virtuosic spectacle of sound and rhythm.

The New York Times calls Nexus "the high priests of the percussion world" and Steve Reich says, "probably the most acclaimed percussion group on earth."

"We are so pleased to be bringing such a creative and innovative group of master musicians to the North Country. We are especially excited that the group has asked a few of our Crane School of Music vocalists to join them on a select arrangement. This is a must-see event," says Jason L. Dominie of CPS.

Performance tickets can be purchased by visiting the CPS Box Office, located in the lobby of SUNY Potsdam's new Performing Arts Center, by calling 315-267-2277, or by visiting www.cpspotsdam.org.

Tickets can also be purchased in-person at Brick & Mortar Music in downtown Potsdam. Prices range from $15 to $30, with discounts for seniors.

There is currently a one-for-one student ticket promotion available for this event. For every adult or senior ticket purchased, CPS will offer one free student ticket (grades pre-K to 12). This offer is only available through the CPS Box Office.

CPS is a college-community partnership presenting world-class performing artists and arts education opportunities in Northern New York. This rich mixture of programming links communities, classrooms and audiences of all ages and preserves access to the performing arts for future generations.
