Colton Winterfest Weekend begins today

COLTON – The Town of Colton Winterfest Weekend, starting today, features Dave Ruch in concert, craft and health fairs, outdoor activities, food, free sleigh rides and more.

The concert is set for Saturday, Jan. 24 in the Colton-Pierrepont Central School auditorium at 7 p.m.

The concert is geared for families and kids and will in involve Colton-Pierrepont Central School students. Local radio personality Joel Hurd, known to many through North Country Public Radio, will join him for a few duets. Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance at White’s General Store, the Potsdam Chamber of Commerce, and The TAUNY Center in Canton. Tickets are $5 each for adults and $3 each for kids 12 and under.

“Art Around Town” will run Friday through Sunday with student artwork displayed at the school and a painted mural at the Colton Hepburn Library, municipal parking area with Kiosk and Three Falls Park.

A pizza sale and contest is set from 3:15 to 6 p.m. at the school cafeteria. Pizza judging will be done at 4 p.m.

The Colton Broomball mid-season tournament will be held Friday evening at the ice rink at Swift Field located off Sugar Bush Lane.

Saturday events begin with a pancake breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m. at Mason’s High Falls Lodge, 85 Main St.

From there the day will be filled with activities such as a health and craft fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the school; family day at Higley Flow State Park which features a nature scavenger hunt, ski swap and free ski waxing.

A white elephant sale plus silent auction to support the neighborhood center will be held at the Methodist church, 11 Church St., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The annual quilt show will be held at the Zion Episcopal Church, library, Catamount Lodge and the town hall. For more information, call Lorraine at 212-9293.

A “Chilifest” will run from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the school. There will be an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner Saturday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Between dinner and the concert the Canton Goldenaires Chorus will performing outside the school auditorium from 6 to 6:30 p.m.

There will also be local beer and wine tasting at Racquette River Pub, karaoke at the AmVets post 262 and Plan B will play live music from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. the pub.

Sunday will see the return of the annual international breakfast at the school from 8 a.m. to noon.

Highlights of the day are a quilt show, the Higley Hustle Ski Festival and sleigh rides.

The ski festival is slated for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is for all ages and abilities.

Free sleigh rides run from noon to 4 p.m. on Lenny Road.

Other things to do on Sunday include a skillet/frying pan toss at the AmVets Post at 1 p.m. and a rock-n-skate event with music and lights at the pavilion.
