COLTON -- The Town of Colton is continuing its summer concert series, with all shows held on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m., except the Colton Country Day performance, set for Saturday, July 18 at noon.

During July and August, the following four performances will be held at the Gazebo behind the Colton Museum on Main Street overlooking the scenic Stone Valley section of the Raquette River in the hamlet of Colton. The backup rain location is the Pavilion at Swift Field:

• July 15 – Alex Smith & Dan Berggren will perform traditional folk music and original songs based upon growing up in the Adirondacks, turning their experiences into musical storytelling that bridges their 40-year age difference and resonates far beyond the Blue Line

• July 29 – Mary Ann Casale & Andy Van Duyne will perform a wide-ranging repertoire built around a core of original songs and covers of great artists including traditional folk, classic country, rock, sing-alongs and standards played on guitar and keyboard

• August 12 – Caramelo Trio will perform an exciting blend of lyrical melody and rhythmic motion inspired by the rich traditions of Latin American musical styles such as rumba, bossa nova, waltzes, and more

• August 26 – Riverside Brass Quintet will perform a variety of music chosen for wide audience appeal and musical quality—some originally written for brass quintets, some arranged for quintets and some borrowed

On July 18 during the town’s Colton Country Day celebration, the Colton Historical Society will treat festival-goers to the music of The Jack Kelley Little Big Band. On Sept. 16, the New Horizons Band of Northern New York will close the series at the town’s pavilion with instrumental music from a wide-ranging repertoire, including international themes, show tunes, big band music, marches and more.

Shows are free and donations are accepted.

Throughout the summer, the organizers will raise the balance needed to cover performer fees and other expenses. The St. Patrick’s-St. Paul’s Altar Rosary Society and the Colt’s Pride Booster Club will contribute a portion of the proceeds from food and drink sales during performances. And, as done in the past, a piece of artwork will be raffled during each performance.

Among the many visual artists in town, four are donating original pieces for the raffles—quilters Judy Rexford and Patty Blickwedehl, painter Judy Filarecki and photographer Kathy Connelly. Their donations will be rounded out by artwork being created by local school art students.

The performances are scheduled and organized by the town’s Tourism and Beautification Committee in collaboration with the Colton Historical Society and others.
