The Riverside Brass Quintet features trumpeters John Schorge and Paul Buell, trombonist Peter McCoy, tubist Peter Popiel and Roy Schaberg on French horn.
COLTON -- The Riverside Brass Quintet will perform Wednesday, Aug. 26 from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. in the Gazebo on Main Street as part of the summer concert series.
The band, organized in spring 2009, includes experienced brass players who also teach throughout the region. All members also are performers in the Northern Symphonic Winds. Each has a connection with The Crane School of Music. Trombonist Peter McCoy is a professor of music. Roy Schaberg on French horn, John Schorge playing trumpet and Peter Popiel on tuba are all emeritus professors. Paul Buell, trumpet, is a Crane graduate who teaches instrumental and vocal music in Sackets Harbor.
The quintet performs a wide variety of music, some originally written for brass quintet, some music “borrowed” or arranged for quintet. Their repertoire is varied in musical styles and chosen for its wide audience appeal as well as high musical quality. Their love of music and their joy in performing is obvious and contagious.
Audience participants should bring their own chairs or blankets to sit on. Bathroom facilities in the museum will be open to the public. Volunteers will be on hand to help people needing assistance. Grilled hot dogs and hamburgers, cold drinks and other goodies will be available to purchase from the Colt’s Pride Booster Club.
If raining, then the performance will be indoors to St. Patrick’s Church Parish Center on State Highway 56 just south of Colton-Pierrepont Central School. The parish center is handicap accessible with bathroom facilities, chairs for seating and adequate space for the booster club to provide food and drinks. If the performance is moved, then notices will be posted online, media will be alerted and signs will be posted at the gazebo.
