OGDENSBURG -- Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center’s Diabetes Education program will offer classes May 9, 16 and 23 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the hospital’s conference room C. Classes will include information on meal planning, medications, exercise, complications, and how to make lifestyle modifications.
Speakers include diabetes educator Karen Cole, dietician Alison Felt, exercise specialist Gerry Hourihan, Dr. Michael Seidman, and pharmacist Danny Sekhon.
“The number of people diagnosed with diabetes continues to grow,” an event announcement from CHMC said. “Diabetes can lead to serious complications such as blindness, kidney damage, cardiovascular disease, and lower-limb amputations, but the occurrence of complications can be reduced with blood pressure control, glucose control, management of blood lipids, and regular physician follow-up.”
There is a charge for the classes and a physician referral is required.
Most insurance covers the cost.
