OGDENSBURG -- Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center’s Diabetes Education is offering a free talk on vaccinations and diabetes on Sept. 18 at 4 p.m. in the hospital's Hess Auditorium.
Danny Sekhon will talk about the importance of getting vaccinations with a special emphasis on people with diabetes.
Diabetics are more likely to be infected with the flu and pneumonia, and are more susceptible to complications of the diseases.
The American Diabetes Association Professional Practice Committee recommends that adults with diabetes should have current vaccinations with influenza, pneumococcal and Hepatitis B vaccinations, CHMC said. Sekhon will discuss guidelines for these vaccines as well as the shingles and T-dap (tetanus, diphtheria and whooping cough) vaccines.
There is no need to register.
