OGDENSBURG -- Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center will sponsor a Diabetes Family Group and presentation on continuous glucose monitoring 6 p.m. Sept. 15.
Continuous glucose monitoring can provide information about shifting glucose levels and assists in making decisions for people with diabetes, which can help to prevent unwanted elevations and drops in blood sugar levels.
Donna LaFratte, MS, CPNP, CDE, a representative from Medtronic, a manufacturer of continuous monitoring systems, will talk about how continuous glucose monitoring works. The continuous glucose monitor measures blood glucose levels through continuous measurement of interstitial fluid. It uses a sensor that is inserted subcutaneously into the abdominal wall or arm.
The free session will take place in the Claxton-Hepburn auditorium on Mansion Avenue.
Those interested in attending or learning more about the Diabetes Family Group, a support group for persons and family members of persons with type 1 diabetes, should contact Ellen Seidman at 393-7393 or Karen Cole at 713-5181.
The family diabetes group is a free open forum for families of children with diabetes to share their concerns and successes.
