OGDENSBURG -- Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center will hold a free skin cancer screening Thursday, May 2 from 2 to 4 p.m. at all six health center locations.
Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer, affecting one in five Americans, according to medical center staffers.
Although most skin cancers are curable if detected and treated early, one person dies every hour from melanoma, the most serious form of skin cancer, staffers said.
At the free screening participants will be checked for possible cancerous skin lesions or precancerous conditions.
If a suspicious lesion is found the participant will be encouraged to follow up with his or her own dermatologist or family physician for confirmation of screening findings. Reports of positive findings will be forwarded to the screening participant’s family physician.
Appoints can be made at 1-888-908-2462.
