OGDENSBURG -- Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center sponsors a free diabetes education day, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1.
The program will include information on meal planning, medications, exercise, complications, and how to make lifestyle modifications. Speakers are Karen Cole, Alison Felt, Dr. Michael Seidman,, and Danny Sekhon.
The number of people diagnosed with diabetes continues to grow. Diabetes can lead to serious complications such as blindness, kidney damage, cardiovascular disease and lower-limb amputations, but the occurrence of complications can be reduced through blood pressure control, glucose control, management of blood lipids and regular follow-up with a physician.
The program begins with a free healthy breakfast and registration at 8 a.m. and a noon catered lunch.
It will be held in the CHMC Auditorium on Mansion Avenue.
