POTSDAM – The class “Customizing Sewing Patterns” with Mary Holland will be held Saturday, Nov. 11, from 1-5 p.m. at the SLC Arts in Old Snell Hall on Park Street. The course will cost $48, or $38 for members and is suitable for ages 14 and older.
A well fitting garment makes even the most unusually shaped people look well dressed. Have you learned basic sewing skills, but have difficulty fitting patterns on your body? Learn how to make alterations on a basic bodice, skirt, and sleeve to fit the shape of your own body.
Students will bring one of the basic fitting sloper patterns currently available in your size range for your choice of a sheath dress (McCalls M7279, Butterick B5627 or B5628, New Look 6824, Vogue V1004), or princess dress (Simplicity S8258 or S8163, or Burda 6676), or a simple shift dress (New Look 6000) pins, paper scissors, measuring tape, soft lead pencil, ruler, calculator.
Instructor will provide additional pattern drafting tools, ease charts, tissue paper, dress form, mirrors. We will fit both on ourselves and on a partner student.
If there is sufficient interest, we can schedule a second class to make the altered pattern up in gingham, to fine tune your pattern’s fit, or hold another class on pants fitting.
Contact the instructor at marygwyneth@gmail.com if you have any questions before class.
