POTSDAM -- Clarkson University faculty and staff will host the institution's first facility management technology workshop March 14 and 15.

The two-day event is geared toward the wider facilities and infrastructure community, including geographic information system (GIS) managers, construction tradespeople, facility managers, engineers, architects, constructors, finance officers, business managers, infrastructure managers, planners and sustainability staff.

Participants will earn up to nine professional development hours (PDHs) through a series of courses that will help them learn about and build upon available and emerging technologies in GIS, building information modeling (BIM), and project management; gain a knowledge base to build sustainable business practices in applicable areas; and provide value-added information to the maintenance of the capital investments for which they are responsible at their institutions, agencies or companies.

Erik C. Backus, the Howard E. Lechler Endowed director of Construction Engineering Management (CEM) in the Department of Civil and Environmental, is leading the workshop and will teach courses alongside University Engineer Michael Tremper, Civil & Environmental Engineering Instructor Bill Olsen, and GIS Technician Michelle McGill, among other Clarkson faculty and staff.

Cost to attend the workshop is $800 and includes all meals. Overnight accommodations are available at the Clarkson Inn for a reduced rate.
