POTSDAM -- Clarkson University students are reaching out to everyone in the region to join them at the Second Annual LapSit April 16, to raise money for Canton-Potsdam Hospital’s new Center for Cancer Care.

The Clarkson University Leadership Corps, the event’s organizers, hope to gather more than 4,000 people on campus to attempt to break the United States record.

For a $1 donation, participants will be able to enjoy a carnival atmosphere and participate in the LapSit.

For $10, participants will also receive a t-shirt commemorating the LapSit.

To register, go to http://www.lapsit2011.com.

The festivities will take place from 10 a.m. to noon outside Clarkson's new Student Center. At 10 a.m. the carnival will begin, along with bone marrow registry and guest speakers from the hospital. The LapSit formation will begin at 11:30 a.m. with “the big sit” at noon.

There will also be a raffle for a $680 gift certificate to the Mirror Lake Inn in Lake Placid.

The Potsdam Village Police, Clarkson men's and women's hockey teams, and fraternities, sororities and other organizations are being invited to compete in the obstacle course.

To form the LapSit, everyone gathers in a circle with each person facing the back of the person next to him or her. At the chosen moment, every member in the circle sits back onto the knees of the person behind or next to him or her.
