POTSDAM -- Clarkson University's Minority Association of Pre-Health Students (MAPS) will host its first ever health fair at Potsdam High School's gymnasium. The fair is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5.

This event is free and open to everyone in the community.

Canton-Potsdam Hospital (St. Lawrence Health System) and many other local health care providers will be in attendance to host informational booths to answer health questions and provide guidance on how to stay healthy in both a mental and physical sense.

There also will be several keynote speakers who are medical professionals from the local community addressing serious topics like pediatric and mental health.

This event will promote health and wellness in the St. Lawrence County community by providing information on healthy eating for adults and children. These vendors and medical professionals aim to ensure that children in the community know what to eat and how to pick healthier options.

Martin’s Farms will be one of the food vendors in attendance selling organic produce to encourage these healthy habits. Bring your recyclable bags and get your fresh, straight-from-the-farm produce, or just swing by and enjoy a free sample.

Several of the clubs on Clarkson’s campus also will be in attendance hosting their own booths. MAPS will be host a table along with many other health related clubs such as Phi Delta Epsilon International Medical Fraternity, Circle K, and Doctors Without Borders, offering a way for kids to get interested in the health field as well as educating people on how the healthy choices they make impact their daily lives. The students will be able to help anyone thinking about college with any application questions or answering questions about their college experience.

These clubs "aim to stir up interest in the STEM fields and get young adults excited about pursuing higher education," a news release said.

There will be games, prizes, food and more.
