POTSDAM -- Cinema 10 continues its 2015 spring season Monday, Feb. 22, with a screening of “Chi-Raq.”
In this adaptation of Aristophanes' antiwar satire, Lysistrata, director Spike Lee takes on gun violence in present-day Chicago.
When an eleven-year-old girl is accidentally killed in a drive-by shooting, Lysistrata and other girlfriends of gang members have had enough.
They stage a sit-down, pledging, like their Greek sisters, to grant no sex until things change.
Lee’s stellar cast includes Samuel L. Jackson, John Cusack, Jennifer Hudson, Dave Chappelle, and Teyonah Parris (Dear White People).
Critic David Edelstein says the film is "sexy, brash and potent--a powerful weapon in its own right."
The film is 118 minutes long and it rated R for strong sexual content, language and some violence and drug use.
Cinema 10 films screen on Mondays at 7:15 p.m. at the Roxy Theater, 20 Main St.
Tickets are $3.50/individual, $25/season tickets for students and seniors, and $4.50/individuals, $35/season tickets for general admission.
