POTSDAM – Cinema 10 presents “The Act of Killing” April 28 in the Potsdam Roxy Theater, 20 Main St.
Joshua Oppenheimer’s film has received near universal accolades for its probing look at mass killings in 1960s Indonesia, both through the death squad perpetrators’ descriptions of what they did and, most strangely, the surreal movie extravaganzas they construct to re-enact their killings.
Critics describe the film as simultaneously horrific and the best movie of the year.
“But every time you think the documentary might be going too far or flirting with filmmaking that feels exploitative,” writes Janice Page in The Boston Globe, “you realize it’s opened your eyes a little wider.“
Cinema 10 films are shown on Mondays at 7:15 p.m. at the Roxy Theater
Tickers are $4.50 for general admission and $3.50 for students and senior citizens.
