POTSDAM -- Cinema 10 continues Monday, April 18, with a screening of “Finding Fela!” at the Potsdam Roxy Theater, 20 Main St., at 7:15 p.m.
Dangerous. Visionary. Immortal. Fela Kuti paved the way for a musical and cultural revolution and had no fear of exposing government injustice.
Using music as his weapon, Fela broke down barriers and faced the possibility of getting thrown in jail every time a single came out.
Finding Fela! uses the man's music as the score for the oral history of one of the most important musical icons of the 70s. Director Alex Gibney builds "a modern myth while simultaneously deconstructing it... [with] a great beat you can dance to,” said Tim Campbell of the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
The film is 119 minutes and is not rated. It includes drug use.
Tickets are $3.50 for students and seniors and $4.50 for general admission.
