CANTON - University of Pennsylvania Chinese Language and Literature Professor Victor Mair will give a talk at St. Lawrence University titled "A Ninth-Century Shipwreck and Its Implications for the History of Tea" Friday, April 22, at 5 p.m. in the auditorium of Hepburn Hall, Room 218.

The event is open to the public, free of charge.

The Belitung Shipwreck (also known as the tang or Batu Hitam shipwreck) was found by Indonesian fisherman off the island of Belitung in 1998 and excavated by German explorers in succeeding years.

Among the ship's cargo were 60,000 pieces of Chinese ceramics, including one unique bowl that is extremely important in the history of tea.
