Snowman contest, jam session, fishing derby featured during Ogdensburg's River Shiver Feb. 12-21

OGDENSBURG – The Greater Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerce will hold its “River Shiver” winter festival Saturday, Feb. 12 to Monday, Feb. 21, with 11 new events added to the lineup.

In addition to traditional events such as The Battle of Ogdensburg at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 19 and 20 at Lighthouse Point, the Ogdensburg Volunteer Rescue Squad Annual Fishing Derby from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 19 at Wheathouse Bay and the chamber’s Polar Bear Plunge 1 p.m., Feb. 12 at the Dobisky Visitors Center, this year the area Lions Clubs will sponsor a 5K Walk/Run at 10 a.m. Feb. 12 at the visitors center, and the Zonta Club brings two events: a bake sale during the Walk/Run and the Polar Bear Plunge from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the visitors center and a Snowflake Social the following day from noon to 4 p.m. at the Freighthouse Restaurant.

Frederic Remington Art Museum’s Kid’s Place will offer comic book drawing classes with local artist Dave Ferry at 10 a.m. Feb. 12.

North Country Savings Bank will pass out hand & food warmers and head bands during Polar Plunge.

The Knights of Columbus will have a Valentine’s Dance from 8 to 11 p.m. Feb. 12 at their hall and have offered the use of their hall to the Chamber for a Jam Session & Open Mike featuring some of the bands that played at Oscar’s over the years at 8 p.m. Feb. 18.

The rescue squad will hold a No-Tap Bowling tourney at Ogdensburg Bowl from noon to 3 p.m. Feb. 13. The Ogdensburg Public Library will offer lessons in making Bath Bombs to elementary age children at 2 p.m. Feb. 19, and the chamber will have a city-wide snowman making contest with judging on Feb. 20.

The City Rec Department will be creating a public skating rink offering free skating all day and evening. The rink will stay operative until the ice melts.
