Chaotic Symmetry set for Friday in Canton
Tuesday, December 5, 2017 - 8:29 am

CANTON -- St. Lawrence University students will perform in the Performance and Communication Arts Fall Dance Concert, "Chaotic Symmetry," beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 8, and Saturday, Dec. 9.

The performances are free and open to the public, however the Friday and Saturday performances require tickets.

There will be nine dances, with three classes making up the concert: Beginner/Intermediate Modern, Beginner Ballet, and an Independent Study as well as three student-choreographed pieces. Each class has been rehearsing routines for this concert since their first day of class in August, meeting four times a week to choreograph pieces for the performance.

Kerri Canedy, visiting assistant professor of performance and communication arts, has been involved with these concerts for the past eight years – a total of 15 concerts. She teaches two to three dance classes each semester and has brought the dance concert to what it is today.

“There is always something for everyone,” Canedy said, “because there are always various styles of dance represented.”

There also will be a Thursday night dress rehearsal, also beginning at 8 p.m. in Gulick Theatre, which tends to be the most awaited moment for all involved in the concert: It's the first night all the dances will be performed to their full glory – with lights, costumes and, most importantly, an audience.

“My favorite part of the show is opening night,” said Canedy, “when I see all the hard work, and countless hours of rehearsal come together, and I am just so proud of everyone and so excited to see them shine up on that stage.”

Tickets for the Friday and Saturday performances can be obtained either online or can be picked up at Gulick Box Office from 1 to 5 p.m., Dec. 4 to 8. For more information, contact the Performance and Communication Arts at 315-229-5166 or visit
