CANTON -- Accomplished pianist, chamber musician, conductor and improviser Blair McMillen will perform a solo recital at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, in the University’s Peterson-Kermani Performance Hal at St. Lawrence University.
Admission is free.
McMillen, who performed on campus a year ago, has graced the stages of Carnegie Hall, the Moscow Conservatory, Lincoln Center and the Library of Congress. Described by the New York Times as a “brilliant pianist and contemporary-music champion,” he is a pianist for the Naumburg Award-winning Da Capo Chamber Players, the American Modern Ensemble and the piano sextet Grand Band, and has accompanied many other prestigious ensembles.
Known for his imaginative and daring programming, McMillen co-founded and co-directs the Rite of Summer Music Festival on Governors Island, New York, an outdoor alt-classical festival that launched its fourth season in 2014.
McMillen holds degrees from Oberlin College, Manhattan School of Music and the Juilliard School. He lives in New York City, where he has served on the music faculty at Bard College Conservatory of Music since 2005.
