CANTON -- Cerebral Palsy Association of the North Country’s “Wild Bears Group” will host a 5K Walk, Run, and Roll on June 20 at Partridge Knoll Golf Course, 70 Sullivan Dr.
The event is to benefit their outdoor recreation program. The walk will begin at 9 a.m. The walk is $5 for adults, and children under the age of 12 can participate free of charge.
“Studies have shown individuals with disabilities do not generally access outdoor recreation activities due to a lack of opportunities to learn how,” said Jim Williams, Outdoor Recreation Program coordinator “Also, the places activities happen are not accessible or affordable to many. This program is designed to change all of that and more. CP of the North Country makes the most of these outings by offering them free of charge, and assisting in the arrangement of transportation when needed,” he said.
The Outdoor Recreation Program, with the support of NYS Elks Major Projects and NYS Office for People with Developmental Disabilities, provides individuals with developmental disabilities the opportunity to enjoy many of the wonders the North Country offers. Canoeing, horseback riding, skiing, camping, white water rafting, and even zip lining are some of the activities participants enjoy.
“Thanks to the generosity of local businesses such as Partridge Run and Save-A-Lot Food Stores, we are able to hold an event like this to help raise some of the needed funds to continue this program” said Wild Bears advisor Rona McGrath.
