POTSDAM -- Potsdam Community Chorus presents "A Celebration of American Song," two concerts featuring music from "West Side Story," "Porgy and Bess," "Candide" and "The Tender Land" on Friday, April 11 and Sunday, April 13.
The Friday, April 11 concert is at 7 pm in the First Presbyterian Church of Ogdensburg 423 Ford St. The Sunday, April 13 concert is at 3 pm in Helen M. Hosmer Hall, The Crane School of Music, SUNY Potsdam.
All are welcome. The concerts are free; donations are gratefully accepted.
Tammara Madeja, director of choral music at Potsdam High School and instructor of choral conducting at Crane, conducts the chorus. PCC is made up of students from area colleges and community members from around the North Country.
Soloists for these performances are Jennifer Freego and Kathryn Waters, sopranos; and Thomas Lawton, baritone. Student conductor is Emily Buckley. Accompanists are Gerrie McGrath and Joshua McGrath, piano.
Music includes "Tonight" and "Somewhere" from Leonard Bernstein's "West Side Story;" a medley from George Gershwin's "Porgy and Bess," including "Summertime" and "It Ain't Necessarily So;" "Make our Garden Grow" from Bernstein's "Candide;" and "The Promise of Living," from Aaron Copland's "The Tender Land," and other favorites.
