The annual Canton Canoe Weekend, Friday through Sunday this year, is a special occasion, since it is the 50th running of the original canoe event, The Rushton Canoe Race.

Canton has lined up several special events to honor Canton canoe builder J. Henry Rushton, and special paddling events on the Grade and Little Rivers.

Thursday, May 12

• Noon-1 p.m., J. Henry Rushton Brown Bag Lunch at Historical Association

• 5:30 p.m., Whitewater Recreation Open Meeting in GRH Community Room, Rushton Place, Main Street

Friday, May 13

• 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m., Rushton Photo Exhibit at Partridge Café, Miner Street

• 10 a.m.-8 p.m., Rushton Boat Expo at the Canton Pavilion, Lincoln Street

• 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Information Booth at the Farmers Market

• Noon-8 p.m., Historical Association Rushton Artifact Exhibit, Main Street

• 3:30-4:30 p.m., 7-mile Traditional Rushton Race from Pyrites

• 4:30-5:30 p.m., spectator viewing on Miner Street Bridge

• 5-6 p.m., Rushton Memorial Race Finish on Canton Island Park, Main Street

• 6:15 p.m., Grasse River Heritage Opening Ceremony at Heritage Park
