CANTON -- Libby Brandt of Canton has been decorating traditional Ukrainian Easter eggs, also known as pysanky, for over 40 years, some of which will soon be on display at TAUNY.More than 100 of her egg creations will be on display at the TAUNY Center, 53 Main St., Saturday, March 9 through Saturday, March 30. She will be at TAUNY at the exhibit opening March 9 from 1 to 2 p.m. to answer questions about her work.
Pysanky are created using a wax-resist and over-dyeing technique, and incorporate traditional, richly symbolic designs.
Pysanky decorating was a family tradition for Brandt’s children, and they have now passed it on to their children. Brandt’s husband, Denny, has even created a special mechanical means for blowing out eggs quickly and efficiently.
