POTSDAM -- Canton-Potsdam Hospital’s Diabetes Support Group will meet at 20 Cottage St. Thursday, Oct. 2 from 11 a.m. to noon in the second floor conference room. Parking is shared with the main hospital.
Dennis Maid, RRT, Director of Respiratory Care Services at Canton-Potsdam Hospital will lead a discussion on sleep apnea.
Clinical studies have shown a link between Type 2 Diabetes and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). OSA is a common condition in which the upper airway repeatedly collapses during sleep, causing a decreased airflow that stresses the heart and raises the blood pressure. Left untreated, this condition may worsen glucose control and insulin resistance.
“Many people do not know they have sleep apnea and that, with treatment, they may get better glycemic control as well as just feel better,” says Maid. Contact Katherine Calcagno at 261-5393 to make a reservation. A light lunch will be served.
