POTSDAM -- A team of Clarkson University faculty and staff will play hockey against a team of Canton-Potsdam Hospital staff to benefit the Potsdam Educational Opportunities Fund (PEOF).

Clarkson and CPH will face off at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 22, in Cheel Arena. The cost to attend the game is $4 per person, and children under 12 years old get in free.

Edward Brown, clinical systems analyst at Canton-Potsdam Hospital, said the hospital's charity hockey team was created in 2013 with the goal of giving back to the community while having some fun.

"PEOF is a wonderful organization that supports our teachers and their educational projects," Brown said. "We are very grateful for the opportunity to participate in Clarkson’s charity event to help improve our wonderful community."

The event also includes a chuck-a-puck contest and a raffle of Clarkson autographed hockey memorabilia.

"The Clarkson Faculty love any excuse to play hockey," Clarkson Associate Professor of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering Douglas Bohl said. "When you add in raising money for an organization like PEOF, it's even better. We hope to have lots of fans come to the game to support this great cause. We promise that watching us play hockey will be entertaining."

The PEOF Advisory Committee, representing a broad cross-section of parents, community leaders and concerned citizens, is working with Potsdam Central School teachers and administrators to develop a support system for creative and successful initiatives provided to Potsdam students. PEOF raises money to support projects proposed by teachers, staff and students in the Potsdam schools. The organization has donated $18,000 to PCS in its first three years.
