POTSDAM -- In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Canton-Potsdam Hospital has planned a number of events throughout the month, including a breast cancer awareness luncheon workshop Wednesday.

This first week kicks off with Canton-Potsdam Hospital staff adorned in pink. Visitors will find pink giveaways and ribbon cookies in the main corridor of the hospital, while supplies last. In addition, raffle tickets will be readily available for a hand-crafted pink ribbon blanket, which was donated by Barbara Perry of Carthage.

Radiation oncologist Dr. David A. Hauerstock presents at a breast cancer awareness luncheon workshop from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 20 Cottage Street, Potsdam Wednesday. Hauerstock earned his medical degree and residency training at McGill University in Montreal, and completed a fellowship at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York. He will provide participants with early detection education and screening and treatment options. The lunch hour will include time for questions and answers. Those still wishing to RSVP should call 261-5701.

To conclude the first week of events, the Annual Women’s Hockey Tournament will take place on Friday, October 7 through Sunday, October 9. Working in collaboration with Massena-Memorial Hospital, the event was created to emphasize the importance of breast, ovarian, and cervical cancers. The Tournament will include games at Clarkson University’s Cheel Arena (where spectators will find vendor booths for shopping), and SUNY Potsdam’s Maxcy Hall.
