Canton Pavilion ends ice for season

CANTON -- Another ice season at the Canton Pavilion has come to a close.

Sunday, March 11, was the final day the ice rink was open for this season. It will reopen next October.

During the 2016-2017 ice season, nearly 5,000 total patrons participated in public skating at the Pavilion and rental skates were provided almost 2,000 times. Many weekend days saw as many as 100 or more patrons during public skating. Beyond the rink, the Riley Community Room was reserved frequently for parties.

Although the ice rink is closed, the Canton Recreation Pavilion is jumping right into spring and summer mode.

The Canton Pee Wee Association will use the arena this spring for both lacrosse and softball. Little Lotus Yoga, a yoga class for children, is held in the Riley Community Room each Wednesday, and the Senior Fitness class meets on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.

The Riley Community Room continues to be available to rent for parties and events.

Upcoming spring programs, including a health and fitness promotion series organized by the Canton’s Youth for a Fit Future Committee and a social media challenge, will take place in April and May.

The Recreation Department is beginning to hire seasonal staff for the summer. Job openings and applications are available at the village clerk’s office and on the Parks and Recreation page of the new Canton website, www.cantonny.gov

For more information, email Canton Recreation Director Caitlin Boreyko at recreation@cantonny.us and follow the Recreation Department on social media @CantonRecNY.
